Karel Beukema was Dutch singles champion in 1899, 1900, and 1902, winning the 1899 doubles with his brother, Frederik Beukema. Karel went to the finals of the 1903 Monte Carlo tournament, losing to Laurie Doherty. He entered the diplomatic service after finishing his studies and moved to Turkey where he was active consul starting in 1906. In late 1907 he developed typhoid fever and died a few weeks later.
