Homer Byington was born in Washington, DC but grew up mostly in Europe. He was the son of missionaries and lived in Italy from 1897-1909, England from 1909-19, Italy from 1919-33, Antwerp in 1935, and Montreal from 1935-44, before retiring to Darien, Connecticut. He was educated in Napoli, Italy by private tutors and never attended college.
