A three-time Olympian, Trine Bakke made her Olympic skiing début in 1994 at Lillehammer where she produced her only Olympic finish of 19th in the giant slalom. The remainder of her Olympic races saw her either disqualified (1994) or did not finish (1998, 2002). The highlight of her skiing career was winning the slalom bronze medal at the 1999 World Championships in Vail, USA (behind Zali Steggall and Pernilla Wiberg). A winner of two World Cups in slalom (St. Anton in 1999, Maribor in 2000), Bakke’s first international competition was the 1993 Europa Cup in the Czech Republic, where she finished 19th.
Bakke attended Heimdal School in Trondheim, Norway. Her parents are Stig (scientist) and Unni (nurse), and she was the middle of three children. She has one older brother, Trond, who was a telemark skier who introduced Trine to the sport at the age of seven, and one younger sister Tonje. Trine married Øivind Rognmo, once the head coach of the national ski team and a well-known cardiac exercise researcher in Norway. She was the recipient of the 1997 Europa Cup Trophy in Slalom, and the 1997 Kings Goblet for the best performance in the National Championships.
