Biography

Alla Butova took up speed skating in 1963 and was on the Soviet national team from 1968-73. Mainly a sprinter, Butova competed at the 1972 Olympics, finishing 8th in 500 m and at the 1972 and 1973 World Sprint Championships, finishing 15th and 21st, respectively. Domestically Butova never won a Soviet title, winning the 500 m distance silver in 1969 and sprint all-around silver in 1972 at the Soviet championships. After finishing her sport career, Butova worked as a teacher-coach at a local sports school in Ivanovo, where she was also deputy director of teaching and educational work for nearly 30 years.

Personal Bests: 500 – 43.7 (1973); 1000 – 1:32.3 (1970); 1500 – 2:23.6 (1970); 3000 – 5:06.4 (1970).
