Biography

Edwina Chamier was a Canadian Alpine skier who competed in the combined event at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics, but did not finish in the slalom element. Chamier was 45-years-old when she participated at the Games, becoming the oldest female Olympian at a Winter Games until Anne Abernathy competed in the luge at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games at the age of 48. Following the Olympics she worked as both a nurse and a spy during World War II. In 1918 Chamier married British Royal Air Force officer John Adrian Chamier, who later founded the Air Training Corps. When her husband was knighted in 1944 she became known as Lady Chamier.
