Louis Sauthier was the elder son of François Sauthier and Marie Sick. His father was an active sportsman in Genève, mainly in gymnastics and wrestling and in 1910, founded the Salle Sauthier in Genève, where he would train his two sons, Jean and Louis in boxing. Louis Sauthier won his first Swiss title in 1924, and in that same year was selected to represent his country at the Paris Olympic Games. Competing in the welterweight class, he lost his only match after he was knocked out by the eventual gold medallist, Jean Delarge of Belgium.
He continued to box throughout the 1920s in his hometown, and remained in the world of sport in his later years, instructing at Salle Sauthier and working as a gymnastics inspector in the primary schools. In the 1960s, Sauthier was the president of the sports section at L’Université de Genève.
