Biography
Joan Guetschow competed in biathlon at the 1992 and 1994 Winter Olympics, especially remarkable when one considers she underwent heart surgery in 1993 to correct a congenital heart defect. Guetschow has also competed in swimming and triathlon. She has also been open about her sexual orientation, competing as a gay athlete, and discussing her experiences in several magazines.
