Raffaella Reggi was one of Italy’s greatest ever female tennis players. During her career she won five titles on the WTA circuit – 1985 Taranto, 1986 Lugano, 1986 San Juan (Puerto Rico), 1987 San Diego 1987, and repeating at Taranto in 1990.
Reggi reached #13 in the world rankings in 1988, and was the first Italian to win a Grand Slam title, playing alongside Sergio Casal as they won the 1986 US Open mixed doubles. She played on the Italian Fed Cup team from 1983 and 1992 and competed at three Olympics Games. Reggi retired after the 1992 season and later became national coach (1998-2001) and a television commentator for Sky Sport. In 2018 she returned to the Atletico Faenza Tennis Club, where she had taken the first steps of her career, when she was named to lead the women’s sector.
