Diann Roffe burst on the scene at the 1985 World Championships when she won the gold medal in the giant slalom at only 17-years-old. A power skiier who was at her best in the Super-G and giant slalom, Roffe’s career went into eclipse over the next few years due to injuries, including a torn knee ligament, but she returned in 1992 to win Olympic silver in the giant slalom, and added an Olympic gold at the 1994 Winter Olympics. A few weeks after Lillehammer, Roffe won the World Cup Finals in Super-G in Vail, Colorado, and then retired from competitive skiing, going out on top. She won six US National titles and was inducted into the US Ski Hall of Fame in 2003.
