Biography

Vera Schenone is a former Italian alpine skier. At 15, she participated in the 1956 Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics as Italy´s youngest competitor. She finished 36th and 29th respectively in the downhill and slalom but failed to finish the giant slalom.

Schenone won six Italian national championships, winning the downhill (1956-57), slalom (1956-57, 1960), and giant slalom (1956). After finishing her competitive career, for many years Schenone managed “Schenone Sport”, a historic sports shop in Torino, with her brother.

At the age of 84, Vera Schenone was arrested on 3 January 2025 for shooting and seriously wounding her neighbour after an argument in the city of Moncalieri. Schenone was later placed under house arrest.
