German sprinter Gabi, twin sister of Birgit Rockmeier, was a member of the 4x100 metres squad at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, which finished sixth. In 2001, Rockmeier won gold at the World Championships in the 4 x100 metres (which was only adjudged in 2004 after the doping disqualification of the US team). She also won the bronze medal over 200 metres at the 2002 European Indoors and two silver medals with the 4x100 at the 1998 and 2002 European Championships.
In total, Gabi Rockmeier won 15 German national titles in individual and relay events. By profession, the twins both became administrative clerks, and both also occasionally did some youth coaching.
