František Poláček boxed in the light-heavyweight class at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, losing in the quarter-finals. He had been a bronze medalist at the 1963 European Championship. Later in life, Poláček emigrated to München, Germany, and lived out his life there in a nursing home.
