Belgian-born Jan Benda was a German-Czech ice hockey player who represented Germany at three Olympic Winter Games from 1994 to 2002. At Salt Lake City in 2002 the German team obtained its best result in reaching the quarter-finals. Benda won 175 international caps and scored 84 goals.
At club level, Benda, son of coach Jan Benda sr., played in Europe and North America for more than 20 clubs, in most cases only for one season. He helped EC Hedos München win the German national title in 1994 and Richmond Renegates win the Riley Cup in 1995. Benda retired in 2018, aged 46 years. He then worked with several clubs as a youth co-ordinator and coach.
