Vasily Blagov competed in pairs figure skating at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics, where he was partnered by Irina Chernyayeva. He and Chernyayeva competed at the 1972 and 1973 European and World Championships, finishing between fifth and seventh each time. Blagov later skated briefly with Nataliya Dongauzer, winning a silver medal with her at the 1972 Prize of Moscow News event.
