Biography

Figure skater David Clements was a member of the Richmond ice rink when he finished third in the British Junior Men’s Championship in 1956. He was runner-up in 1957 and the following year captured the title. Also in 1958, Clements won the Southern Counties Ice Dance title with fellow Richmond member Mary Walsh. They retained their Southern Counties title in 1959 when Clements also captured both the Junior and Senior men’s singles titles.

Clements took part in the World and European Championships in both 1959 and 1960, with a best finish of seventh at the 1960 Europeans. He was runner-up to Robin Jones of Queen’s Club in 1960 for the senior British title and gained selection for the Squaw Valley Winter Olympics where Jones finished 13th and Clements 15th. Clements later turned to coaching and worked for a while in San Diego, USA.
