Mark Cockerell was a singles skater, who won the 1976 World Junior title, the first time that event was contested. He was second at the 1985 US Championships, after placing third in 1983 and 1984. Cockerell competed at three World Championships, with the following placements: 1983 - 14th; 1984 - 13th; and 1985 - 8th. Cockerell was also a top archer and a private pilot.
