Ernest “Ernie” Collett won the Allan Cup with the Toronto Granites in 1922 and 1923, a trophy bestowed annually upon the Canadian senior men’s ice hockey championships. With this victory, the Granites were chosen to represent Canada in the hockey tournament at the first Olympic Winter Games in 1924. He holds the distinction of being Canada’s first flagbearer at the Winter Olympic Games, and played in two matches at the tournament as the backup goaltender for Jack Cameron. He had previously played for numerous Toronto amateur clubs including the Toronto Riverside Hockey Club (1915-1917), the Toronto Crescents (1917-1918), Toronto Newman Hall (1919-1920) and Toronto Parkdale (1920-1921), before joining the Toronto Granites in 1921. After his playing career, he served as a referee in addition to his day job of running his own tailoring business.
