Biography

Ice hockey forward Jim Connelly began the 1951-1952 season with the Waterloo Hurricanes of the Junior Ontario Hockey Association, but he switched midway to play with the Guelph Biltmores. It was a wise decision as the Biltmores captured that year’s Memorial Cup, given annually to the junior men’s ice hockey champions in Canada. He had one more year with the Biltmores prior to moving up to the senior league with the Chatham Maroons, a team with which he would play until end of his hockey career in 1963. He had a fairly standard run with the Maroons until 1959, when he was invited by the Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen to join them in representing Canada at the 1960 Winter Olympics in ice hockey. At the tournament he played in seven games, scored five goals, and took home a silver medal for his country. He capped off the year by winning the Allan Cup, the senior version of the Memorial Cup, with the Maroons. He still holds an Ontario Hockey Association record for scoring four goals in one period during the 1957-1958 season and now resides in London, Ontario where he played hockey with the London Huff ‘N Puff thrice weekly from October through March until he finally retired on his 79th birthday.
