John Cress was the 1952 and 1953 US junior boys ski jumping champion. He later attended the University of Denver, where he helped them win NCAA team skiing titles for three consecutive years, 1954-56. In 1956, Cress won the NCAA skimeister (all-around) award. He later coached skiing at the University of Wyoming and then the University of Alaska, coaching Wyoming to the 1968 NCAA team title.
