Fritz Demmer was a forward who played center or left wing, although later in his career he shifted to defense. He played from 1928-49 in top Austria leagues, mostly representing clubs in Wien (Vienna), although he had a few years in the 1940s in Germany with Mannheimer ERC. Demmer started out with Wiener EV, but also skated for Wien City, Wien EKE, and Wiener EG.
He competed at the 1936 and 1948 Winter Olympics, but also appeared nine times at the World Championships, winning bronze medals in 1931 and 1947. In 1932 he skated at the European Championships and in 1940 and 1941 he played at the Wintersportwoche in Germany. In that era, the World Championships doubled as European Championships, allowing Demmer to win six European medals, with a gold in 1931, along with two silvers and three bronzes.
Demmer was also a good tennis and football player. He was inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.
