Jean-Daniel Dätwyler made his top-ten World Cup debut for Switzerland in alpine skiing’s downhill in January 1967, when he placed third in an event in Wengen. He entered the 1968 Winter Olympics as a relative unknown, but managed to capture a bronze medal in the downhill event. He had an additional six podium finishes at the World Cup in the downhill over his career, including two victories, but he retired in February 1972 and did not attend that year’s Winter Olympics. He was Swiss national champion in the downhill in 1968, 1969, and 1970 and later ran a sports equipment business in Villars-sur-Ollon.
