Biography

Hroar Elvenes took part in four Olympic Games, with a sixth place in the 1952 500 m his best result. His best international achievement was winning the 1,500 m at the European Championships in 1955, placing fifth overall. In the Norwegian Allround Championships, his best result was a fourth place, which he reached in both 1955 and 1957. Elvenes served as President of the Norwegian Skating Foundation from 1975-77, board member of the Norwegian Olympic Committee from 1979-84, and vice-president of the Norwegian Confederation of Sports from 1980-81. He worked as a manager in the construction business. In 2010, his granddaughter Miranda was elected Miss Universe Norway.

Personal Bests: 500 – 40.9 (1960); 1500 – 2:10.3 (1960); 5000 – 8:16.7 (1964); 10000 – 17:41.2 (1957).
