Biography

Paul Franke was a two-time German champion in 1927 and 1929 defeating Werner Rittberger - just for once - and Ernst Baier, respectively. In all other years 1920-1921, 1923-1926 and 1928, he was runner-up to Rittberger. At major international Championships, Franke finished: 1926 World Championships (9th); 1927 World Championships (withdrawn); 1928 World Championships (8th); 1924 European Championships (6th); 1925 European Championships (6th); 1927 European Championships (5th); 1929 European Championships (6th). At the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics he came in twelfth.
