Julio César Nicolari was South American champion in both 1924 and 1925, defeating Francisco Caldera of Chile in the 1924 final and his countryman, Valdenegro, in the 1925 final. At the 1924 Olympics, Nicolari became the first Uruguayan boxer to win a bout, defeating Ernests Gūtmanis of Latvia in the first round. After the Olympics, Nicolari did have a professional career, but only two fights are known and documented in www.boxrec.com. In 1928 he fought a draw with Horacio Roldan and in 1934 lost on points to Hugo Cartelle.
