Oscar Geier was born in Switzerland but came to the United States in 1902 to open a branch office of a European law firm. He settled in New Jersey only to be recalled to Switzerland during World War I, when he became a captain in the Swiss Army. Returning to the US, he helped form the law firm of Richards & Geier. In sports, he competed in cycling, rowing, athletics, and bobsledding. With Reto Capadrutt, he was a frequent competitor in bobsledding at Lake Placid.
