Biography

Uberto Gillarduzzi was one of five Italian brothers who all competed in the bobsleigh. Gillarduzzi’s career spanned almost two decades and saw him compete in competitions either side of World War II. He was selected as part of the four-man crew that competed in the second Italian sled at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics. The team had a decent time on the first of four runs, with the fifth-fastest time, but failed to finish the course on the second run. One year later he and his brother Antonio won silver in the two-man event at the World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo. After the war Gillarduzzi competed in the two-man and four-man events at the 1952 Oslo Olympics, finishing 12th and 14th, respectively.
