Biography

Jerry Armstrong boxed for the United States as a bantamweight at the 1960 Olympics. At the time he was a student at Idaho State University, although he had just left the Army after serving in the 82nd Airbone from 1954-58. He was 1957-58 All-Army Champion and 1958 All-Service Champion. Armstrong never turned professional but instead went to work for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, retiring in 1998 after 32 years as a personnel director. He also became a boxing official, refereeing over 100 professional bouts, including several title fights. He is a member of the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame and the Idaho State University Hall of Fame.
