Biography

Robin Greiner skated pairs with Carole Ormaca. They began skating in Fresno and, in their first year together, 1952, won the California State Championship and the Pacific Coast Championships. In 1953 they won their first of four consecutive US Pairs titles. Together they finished fourth at the World Championships in 1954, 1955, and 1956. He later served as a skating judge in Fresno and Pacific District competitions.

Greiner studied at Cal State Berkeley but graduated from Cal State, Fresno (Fresno State). He became a funeral director, first in Los Angeles, but then returned to Fresno where he worked at Yost and Webb and then the Fowler Funeral Home. He later worked for the California Employment Development Department in Fresno, retiring in 1994. He was also active in many service and social groups in the Fresno area including the Fresno Interfaith Alliance, Planned Parenthood Miramonte, the Fresno Women’s Democratic Club, and the Central California Alliance.

In 1965 he was inducted into the Fresno County Athletic Hall of Fame and in the Fresno High School Hall of Fame in 2014. In 2000, Greiner and his partner of 42 years became one of the first California gay couples to be legally wed.
