Following his career as a speed skater Oldřich Hanč became a noted pharmacologist and biochemist. In 1935 Hanč became the junior speed skating champion of Czechoslovakia, earning him a place at the 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics. At the Games he competed in the 500, 1,500, and 5,000 metres, but failed to finish inside the top-30 in any of those. After the end of World War II Hanč studied in the fields of pharmacology and biochemistry and was awarded with the Hanuš Medal by the Czech Chemical Society in 1971.
