Gustav Hanson competed on the first US Olympic biathlon team at the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics. Although born in Pennsylvania, Hanson grew up in Sweden, with his twin sister, Grace, returning to the US when he was 19. He was in the Army at the time of his Olympic appearance. Hanson later settled in Alaska where he worked in sporting good sales and was known for his smoked salmon and running the trails.
