Ryan Heckman started ski jumping and cross-country skiing in 1982 after his family moved to Winter Park, Colorado. In 1991 Heckman became the youngest ever US Champion in ski jumping, at 16-years-old, winning the large hill title. Heckman moved up to be world ranked #9 in 1997, just before he retired from Nordic combined. He competed in four World Championships. Heckman graduated summa cum laude from the University of Colorado in 1998 with a degree in business and a minor in economics.
