Japanese ice hockey player Shinichi Honma began his career when he was 16-years-old in 1950 despite being barely able to skate. During the 1950s and 1960s Honma represented the Oji Eagles in Tomakomai in addition to playing a few matches for the national team. In 1960 he made his first appearance at the Olympics when he played in six matches at the Squaw Valley Games. Four years later Honma returned to the Olympics for the 1964 Innsbruck Games, this time playing in eight matches and scoring three goals. His younger brother Teruyasu took part at the 1972 Sapporo Olympics.
