Nate Jones came to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics having won the National Golden Gloves heavyweight championship in 1994 and 1995. He won a bronze medal in Atlanta, losing in the semi-finals to Canada’s David Defiagbon. After the Olympics Jones turned professional, winning 17 of his first 18 bouts, hampered only by one draw. Jones won the NABA heavyweight crown by decision over Derrick Banks in September 2000. He fought for two more years, finishing with a record of 18 wins (9 by KO), 2 losses, and 1 draw, but was forced to stop on medical advice when he began to develop decreased reflexes and slurred speech after his last loss.
Jones later worked as an assistant to Floyd Mayweather, an Olympic teammate from 1996, and appeared on television on both HBO and Showtime, showing him working with Mayweather and training him.
