Biography

Willard Ikola is the brother of Roy Ikola, also an ice hockey goaltender. Roy was a member of the American AAU-team that was sent to the 1948 Olympics, but did not play. Willard Ikola was the goalie for two NCAA Championships teams while at the University of Michigan. Ikola later became an ice hockey coach at Edina High School, a suburb of Minneapolis, where he won eight state championships and was named Minnesota high school coach of the year six times, during a 33-year career. When he retired from coaching in 1991 he had won 619 games, a state record. Ikola later worked as a scout for the New York Islanders.
