Janko Janša’s family lived in the village of Dovje in the Upper Carniola winter sports region of Slovenia. Following his amateur career, he became a skiing instructor, teaching at the Institute for physical culture in Ljubljana after World War II. Together with his brother Joško, he initially played soccer for the Jesenice team.
