In 1994 he finished 13th in an individual World Cup at Steamboat Springs, Colorado, which made him the first American to score World Cup points in Nordic combined.
Jarrett graduated from the University of Colorado with degrees in kinesiology and applied physiology. He became a ski coach, and in 2002 started coaching the US Nordic combined program, moving up to head coach in 2008. Jarrett is often credited with the great success of US Nordic combined skiers in the late 2000s and early 2010s, which culminated with the US winning one gold and three silver medals at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, led by Billy Demong, Johnny Spillane, and Todd Lodwick.
