Art Redden was the oldest US boxer at the 1968 Olympics. He attended college at Arkansas AM & N, graduating in 1960, where he played football and ran track. After college Redden joined the US Marines and began boxing. From 1964-68 he won the All-Marine and the Interservice title as a light-heavyweight. He won a gold medal at the 1967 Pan American Games and won the CISM title in 1966-67. Redden was a career Marine and later became the Marines boxing coach.
