Ben Rothwell, who competed for the Newark Athletic Club, was runner-up at the 1924 AAU championship to Fred Boylstein, which qualified him for the US team at the 1924 Olympics. Rothwell won two matches at the Olympics, and then lost to Argentine Alfredo Copello in the quarter-finals. Rothwell turned professional after the Olympics, winning six fights, five by knockout, and losing none between November 1924 and March 1925. Despite being undefeated there is no record of him fighting again. He lived most of his life in Newark, New Jersey where he became a boxing referee and a tavern owner from the 1920s into the 1960s. Rothwell later retired to Short Hills, New Jersey, where he died.
