Biography

Wolfgang Junginger was an alpine skier specialising in slalom and giant slalom, and was a member of the West German national team from 1970-76. His greatest moment came at the Alpine World Championships in 1974, when he won a bronze medal in the combination. Two years later, he competed at the Innsbruck Winter Games, and a sixth place finish in the slalom was his best result.

In 1982, Junginger was the pilot of a private airplane, flying from Munich to Hannover to watch the West German national soccer team play against Portugal. The plane had technical problems, and crashed shortly before reaching Hannover airport. Junginger, and two passengers, died at the scene. The only survivor of the crash was the manager, and later president, of FC Bayern München Uli Hoeneß.
