Ben Spradling fought only one bout in the 1904 Olympics, losing by a TKO in the third to middleweight champion Charles Mayer. Spradling represented the Business Men’s Gymnasium in St. Louis officially, but was actually sponsored by the Mound City Rowing Club, where he was active in both boxing and rowing, serving as team captain in the latter sport. He remained there as an active competitor until at least 1910, alongside his brother Fred, who later also became crew captain. Later in life he worked as a carpenter and a farmer.
