Mats Kihlström played with two clubs during his career – from 1981-84 and 1986-93 with Södertälje SK and from 1984-86 with Brynäs IF. He never won a Swedish title, with his best finish a third in 1989 with Södertälje. Kihlström was also drafted by the Calgary Flames of the NHL in 1982, but never played in North America. Kihlström was capped 138 times with the Swedish national team. He won an Olympic bronze in 1988, was World Champion in 1987 and won World Championships silver in 1986. He also won a European Championships silver in 1986 and bronze in 1989. He was awarded the Stora Grabbars Märke (Big Boys’ Badge) #138 in ice hockey. After finishing his playing career, Kihlström worked as a sports director and general manager of Södertälje SK. He is currently vice-president of Södertälje SK.
