Biography

Vladimir Kovin began his hockey career with Torpedo Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) in 1974 and played there until 1989. With Torpedo Gorky, Kovin never won a medal at the Soviet Championships. From 1989-94 Kovin played in France with HC Reims, and then with ASG Tours, before finishing his career in 1998-99 again HC Reims. Since 1999, Kovin has been the head coach of HC Reims and won the French title with them in 2000. In 2003-04 and 2007-08 he also made short comebacks as a player, playing with HC Reims in the French Championships. Internationally besides his 1984 Olympic gold, Kovin was European Champion in 1985 and won bronze at the 1985 World Championships. He also won bronzes at the 1976 and 1984 Canada Cup and played on the winning 1979 Challenge Cup team between the Soviet Union and NHL stars.
