Biography

Wolfgang Kromp played ice hockey as a right wing and later defence with the Austrian team at the 1994 Lillehammer, 1998 Nagano, and the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. The team was eliminated in the group stage and finally placed 12th and last, after losing the match for 11th place to Norway 3-1 in 1994. Four years later at Nagano the team again placed last and 14th, and then at Salt Lake City came 12th out of 14. Kromp won 49 international caps and scored eight points (5+3).

Kromp had a long-playing career at Villacher SV where he spent 22 seasons and became a five-time Austrian champion (1992-93, 1999, 2002, 2006). During his later years he switched from being a forward to a defenceman. Kromp finished his career in the Austrian fourth division in 2010/11 and then turned to coaching and started out as an assistant coach for the junior team of Villacher SV. His son Christof also became a professional with Villacher SV.
