Although he was Swiss, Jean Gougoltz competed frequently in France, and later in his career in six-day races in North America. His professional career lasted from 1895-1908. He twice won the Grand Prix d’Angers in the sprint, in 1896-97. He was also sprint champion of France in 1895 and of Switzerland in 1900, and won the Swiss Championship in the motor-paced event in 1905. But he was also a road racer, riding at Paris-Roubaix in 1901, Bordeaux-Paris in 1904, and the Bol d’Or in 1902 and 1908. He started at least nine six-day events in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, with his best finish being third in 1900.
