Biography

Deena Drossin-Kastor was an American distance runner who competed at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympics, winning a bronze medal in the marathon at the 2004 Athina Olympics. As Deena Drossin, she ran collegiately at the University of Arkansas, winning four SEC titles and being named All-American eight times. She was an eight-time USA Champion in cross-country and won two individual silver medals (2002-03) at the World Cross-Country Championships, adding three team medals at that event. In the 10K, Drossin-Kastor set a US record with 30:50.32 in 2002 in Palo Alto, California.

Drossin-Kastor focused on the marathon later in her career and won the 2005 Chicago Marathon and the 2006 London Marathon. At London she set the USA record for the distance with 2-19:36. Her London win in 2006 led to her being world ranked #1 for the year. Kastor finished ninth at the 2013 World Championships, which was her last world-class senior event. She also ran at the World Championships in the 10K in 2001, 2003, and 2007.

Drossin-Kastor was named USATF Runner of the Year in 2001, 2003-04, and 2008. She has been inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame, the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2007), the New York Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (2001), and the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
