Monique Hennagan

Monique Hennagan was a long sprinter who competed at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, winning gold medals both years in the 4x400 metre relay. Hennagan ran in college at the University of North Carolina, where she won eight ACC Conference titles, including winning the 400 metres all four years, and she won two NCAA titles, in the 400 indoors and the 800 outdoors in 1996.

Professionally Hennagan ran at the 2007 World Championships, winning gold in the 4x400. She competed twice at the Goodwill Games, winning silver in 1998 in the 4x4 and gold in 2001 in the same event. At the World Indoor Championships, she won bronze medals in the 4x400 in both 1999 and 2003. Hennagan earned a silver medal at the 2004 World Athletics Final in the 400 metres.

Hennagan later worked for the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees as an advocate for worker’s rights. She was inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
