Libbie Hickman

Libbie Hickman was a distance runner who ran the 10,000 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She ran at three World Championships, competing in the 5,000 in 1995 and 1997, and the 10,000 in 1999. Although born in Montana, she grew up in Cairo, Egypt, as her father was an oil company executive.

She ran in college at Colorado State University and in 1997 Hickman became the first American woman in 14 years to win the Bolder Boulder road race. At the 2000 Beach-to-Beacon race, Hickman and Catherine Ndereba memorably fought it out over the last kilometres and finished in an almost dead heat, although Ndereba was given the victory. Hickman was ranked in the US top 10 for the 5K for six consecutive years, from 1993-98, with top rankings of #2 in 1997-98. She was the second ranked American in the 10,000 in both 1999 and 2000.
