Jen Rhines was a distance runner who competed at the 2000, 2004, and 2008 Olympic Games, running the 10,000 at Sydney in 2000, the marathon at Athina in 2004, and the 5K at Beijing in 2008.
Rhines ran in college at Villanova University, where she won five NCAA titles – in the 5,000 metres in 1994-96, cross-country in 1994, and the indoor 5K in 1995. In 1994 and 1995 she won the Honda Sports Award at the top collegiate female cross-country runner.
After college Rhines ran professionally, winning three US titles at 15 km, in 1998, 2005, and 2011. She won the 2011 USA half-marathon championship and the 2002 10K on the track.
Rhines was coached after college by her husband, Terrence Mahon. She ran mostly for the Boston Athletic Association and represented adidas but in 2017 she and her husband started a coaching group in California, which became the Golden Coast Track Club.
