Although perhaps best known for his silver medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics in freestyle skiing aerials, Philippe LaRoche finished first in the same event two years earlier at the 1992 Winter Olympics, when the sport was presented as a demonstration event. Coming from a family of well-known Olympic skiers, he learned to ski from his older brother and was a member of the Canadian Freestyle Team from 1987 through 1995. During that time he was a member of the elite freestyle skiing team known as the “Quebec Air Force” and had a total of 42 podium finishes at World Cup and World Championship events. He was inducted into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame in 1998. Since his retirement, he has remained active in the world of sport and taken up golfing.
