A London accountant, David Lewis was a member of the GB1 4-man bob team at the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. His fellow crew members were Guy Renwick, along with Tony Nash and Robin Dixon who had won the 2-man gold a few days earlier. Embarrassingly for GB1, the GB2 four had better times in three of the four runs but Lewis´s team saved face by beating their second crew by 3/100ths of a second as they finished 12th and 13th respectively.
Renwick, Nash, and Dixon were three of the four members of the GB1 bob at the 1963 World Championships at Isgls, the same Innsbruck venue that staged the 1964 Olympics. The fourth member of the crew should have been Lewis but, following an accident during practice a few days earlier, Lewis was removed from the scene on a stretcher and unable to compete in the competition proper. His place was taken by Andrew Hedges and the crew went on to finish fourth.
